The Housing Authority of the County of DeKalb (HACD) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open on a limited basis. Applications are being accepted from September 16, 2020 at 8:30 am CT, until 3,000 applications have been received.
Please note: According to the HACD, "applicants must be income eligible and have 2 or more local preferences."
This waiting list has the following local preferences:
Family Preference: Head of household, spouse or sole member has legal custody of a minor child or children. If the Head of household, spouse or sole member is elderly (62 or older) or disabled you qualify for this preference.
Working Preference: Head of household, spouse or sole member is employed and working. If the Head of household, spouse or sole member is elderly (62 or older) or disabled you qualify for this preference.
Residency Preference: Applicant family can demonstrate that your primary physical residence is in DeKalb County, Illinois. Or if Head of household, spouse or sole member is working or hired to work in DeKalb County Illinois. Must be on a permanent, non-temporary basis.
Rent Burden: Applicant family is currently paying more than 50% of their family/household income for rent and utilities for 90 days or more.
Continuum of Care: Applicant family is currently residing in Emergency Shelter, Transitional Shelter, Permanent Supportive Housing or participating in homeless services at/in/through a participating DeKalb County Continuum of Care agency such as Hope Have, Safe Passage, etc and have received a written letter of recommendation from that agency not less than 30 days ago.
Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.
