The Charleston-Kanawha Housing Authority (CKHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open. Pre-applications are being accepted from September 9, 2019 at 9:00 am ET, until further notice.
There are two ways to apply during the opening period:
According to the CKHA, the following documentation is required:
"A current mailing address
Photo IDs for every household member 18 or older
Birth certificates for every household member
Social Security cards for every household member
Proof of Income - 2 consecutive pay stubs or SSA benefits statement"

This waiting list has the following preferences:
Working Preference:
A preference is give to families where the head, spouse, or sole member is employed at least 20 hours per week, or where the head of household, co-head or spouse has a disability or is elderly (62 or older). Families who qualify for a preference move up the wait list faster than other families.
Residency Preference:
A preference is given to families who live, work or have been hired to work in Kanawha, Clay, or Putnam counties.
Non-elderly Disabled:
Non-elderly persons with disabilities transitioning out of institutional and other segregated settings, at serious risk of institutionalization, homeless, or at risk of becoming homeless.
Selected applicants will be placed on the waiting list by date and time the application is received, weighed by order of preferences.
