The Housing Authority of the City of National City, Section 8 Rental Assistance Program (HACNC), administers the Housing Choice Voucher Program for eligible low-income households and seniors that either live or work in National City.
If a participant/family meets income and other eligibility guidelines, their name is placed on the waiting list. The waiting period may be anywhere from eight (8) to ten (10) years. When funds become available and the familys name has reached the top of the waiting list, an interview and evaluation is conducted. Housing Authority staff inspects all assisted units to ensure that they are in decent, safe and sanitary condition at initial lease-up and during the annual re-certification process.
Property owners receive a fair market rent for their units. Families pay their landlords approximately 30% of their income for housing. Section 8 pays the difference directly to the owner.
Applications are downloadable on their website, or call for more information.
