The McAlester Housing Authority (MHA) Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher waiting list is currently open until further notice.

McAlester, OK is about 90 miles south of Tulsa, OK.

To apply, visit the MHA office to pick up a pre-application, located at 520 W Kiowa Ave., McAlester, OK 74501, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm CT, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The MHA does not hand out or receive pre-applications on the 1st through the 6th of the month.

Once the pre-application has been completed, it must be hand delivered to the address listed above, from 9:00 am until 4:00 pm, on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays. The MHA does not hand out or receive pre-applications on the 1st through the 6th of the month.No documents are needed at this time.

Be sure to include these documents with the pre-application: Social Security Cards and birth certificates for all household members, photo IDs for all adult household members, proof of all income, and letter from school if enrolled in school.

Applicants will receive a confirmation number upon submitting the pre-application. It is important to keep that number in a safe, easy to access place. It will be needed any time when referencing your pre-application with the housing authority.

The MHA does have a preference, and will go over them when you pick up the pre-application.

The current wait time for a Section 8 Housing Choice Voucher is 12 to 18 months.
